Setting up your theme

To set-up a front page you need to create two pages. Name the first one Blog. Name the second one Front Page and from the Page Attributes box assign it to the Front Page template. Next go to Settings > Reading on the Front page displays. Select A static page and on the following two drop-downs select first your Front Page and then your Blog page. Save your changes.

Blog

Your posts will be displayed on your Blog page. For your front page you will need to read the Front Page template with Slider section below.

Events

The Events post type allows you to show off your events in an elegant way. From your admin panel go to Events > New Event. Start filling in the information. Use the title to note the town/country the event takes place and optionally the nature of the event (e.g. London, UK or Secret Concert, New York City). Use the main content to write the description, details and information regarding the event. If the event is part of a tour, you may create a Tour taxonomy and file the event under that.

Below the main content is the Event Details section. Add location and date details. Enter the event’s date and time using the included date and time pickers. Type in the name of the venue the event takes place, e.g. Moe’s Bar and then locate the place on the map.

Click on the Set Venue Position button and then click on the exact point on the map to place a marker. Below the map you can enter additional information about the venue (address, phone number and website address). stereo-event-map
Don’t forget to assign a Featured Image.

Events templates

Create a new page from Pages > Add New and name it Events or something similar. From the Page Attributes box assign the Coming Up Event template. This page will now show a big map with all events having an Event Date equal or later than today’s date.
You can create another page to show both past and future events if you wish. Again, create a new page named accordingly (e.g. All Events) and this time assign the All Events template.
Future events are also shown on the front page. See section Front Page template with Slider for more information.

Don’t forget your Events just yet. When your gig ends, make sure to update the Event with photos taken on location, write about your experience and give people who attended a chance to share their thoughts with you. You will gain audience engagement and the comments are a great SEO boost.

Releases

Releasing demos, rehearsal recordings, bootlegs, LPs, CDs, DVDs, etc. Releases allow you to add all these to your website. Go to Releases > Release Types and add some types, such as CD, DVD, Bootleg, etc. Add everything you have ever released as an artist.

From Releases > New Release start by adding the title of the release (such as your CD’s title). Go to the Release Details box and select when it was released. Add a Featured Image.
Into the main content box provide a description, special thanks, track listings…Whatever you need. Next get your music on SoundCloud, either as a single track or if  there are more, as a Set. Then copy the URL of your track/set. Anywhere on the main content use the SoundCloud shortcode to embed it.

Like this:

[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

The player that appears will automatically expand to fit the content’s width, but if you want you can specify an exact width and/or height with the width and height parameters.

Like this:

[soundcloud width="200" height="150"]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

Note that you can use the parameters you want, not necessarily both of them.

To create a new slider item, go to Slider Items > New Slider Item. Give it a title and set a Featured Image. That image will be displayed on the slider.

Here you have multiple options that regulate what your website displays:

  • Use the following on listing pages: Allows you to have the Content or the Excerpt displayed on various listing pages.
  • Read More text: What will be displayed instead of the default Read More… or […]
  • Excerpt length (in words): Limits how many words the excerpt will be, and whether it should be linked to the post.
  • Excerpt auto cut-off text: When a manual excerpt is not provided, WordPress generates one automatically from your post’s content, limiting the words according to the setting above. Because that may be mid-paragraph, the cut-off text is appended at the end to show that the text continues.
  • Title separator: How the various elements of the tag will be separated (dash, pipe, colon, etc)
  • Show “Comments are closed” message: Allows you to hide/show the default “Comments are closed” message when comments are disabled.
